Accreditation matters but is it the be-all and end-all?

Is Accreditation Enough?

Hearthstone accreditation by industry regulatory bodies is important to me, but this is not enough in itself. In an industry that has got
a poor reputation, establishing integrity is essential. I believe it helps me provide my clients with a service that stands out from just any
other agent. Regulations only cover the legal responsibilities but Hearthstone has a lot more to offer than that.

The Hearthstone Ethos

At Hearthstone the philosophy is quite simple, “Provide the best level of service possible.” Strive to be effective, whilst remaining candid
with both landlords and tenants. I believe that building relationships are the key to a successful tenancy, and being communicative is the best way to achieve that goal.

This does not help new clients of course, you have to know someone to feel comfortable with them. Trust comes hard to new
acquaintances, this is why nationally approved accreditation schemes are important. They help to provide a level of trust and security
which landlords and tenants are looking for. These schemes help give clients confidence that they are dealing with a respectable
company.

The aim of industry licensing is to offer good agents a platform to be publicly recognised, give security to clients and maintain high levels
of service.

Hearthstone Accreditation

I have gained a licence from The National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS). This means Hearthstone has agreed to meet defined
standards of customer service. As part of this Hearthstone has a client money protection scheme and a customer complaints procedure.
There is also independent redress for landlords and tenants via the property ombudsman.

Joining NALS was easy, but the burden of proof is extensive

The points below highlight the evidence Hearthstone will have to provide NALS annually. This evidence ensures my continued compliance. Guarantees financial security for my clients; but most importantly to me, membership ensures my continued improvement.

  • Submission of our company complaints procedure
  • Provide proof of membership to a property redress scheme
  • Provide proof that the company accounts are correct and up to date
  • Demonstrate membership of a client money protection scheme
  • Provide evidence of a tenant deposit protection scheme
  • Provide proof that Hearthstone’s bank accounts include a client monies account. This legally separates our running costs from
    tenant/landlord money
  • Provide evidence of Professional Indemnity Insurance that delivers appropriate cover

I participate in these accreditation schemes to give peace of mind to Hearthstone’s customers. We are pleased to be participants
and advocate the best standards of practice possible via official regulation and guidance. As a further step on from NALS I also joined the SAFEagent scheme; set up for conscientious agents who demand better industry standards

Official regulation only ever stipulates the minimum standard expected and this is not our way. Pushing to exceed client expectation
is, and will continue to be in our character. My service needs to be more than just respectable, I want Hearthstone to be recognised for
caring about its clients and the properties I manage.

If you are looking for an agent who operates a little differently and cares a whole lot more why not get in touch with Hearthstone. The website is full of useful information, but if you can’t find what you are looking for why not phone me for a chat. I am always happy to pass
on whatever information I can.
